🔒 Zero Personal Data Collection Policy: Speed Reporter is designed with a strict privacy-first architecture. We do not collect, track, store, or transmit any Personally Identifiable Information (PII), analytics, location data, or device identifiers.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy applies to the Speed Reporter application ("the App") available on iOS, macOS, Android, and Web platforms. Your privacy is paramount to us. Speed Reporter is an independent network benchmarking utility designed to test network connection performance—including download speed, upload speed, idle ping, jitter, loaded latency, and bufferbloat—without compromising user privacy.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
Speed Reporter operates entirely without user tracking or external data collection. Specifically:
- No Personal Information: We do not ask for or collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials. No account creation is required to use the App.
- No Location Data: We do not request or track GPS, cellular tower, or precise geographical location data.
- No Device Identifiers: We do not collect advertising IDs (IDFA/GAID), MAC addresses, IMEI numbers, or unique device fingerprints.
- No Third-Party Analytics or Advertising: We do not integrate third-party advertising networks, marketing SDKs, tracking pixels, or user behavior analytics tools (e.g., Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Flurry).
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Speed Reporter stores test history and user preferences strictly on your device using local platform storage (such as SharedPreferences or local app storage):
- Speed Test History Logs: Test results including measured download/upload speeds (Mbps), idle ping (ms), jitter (ms), loaded latency (ms), bufferbloat grade (A+ to F), server name, connection type (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Cellular), and timestamp.
- App Preferences: Selected theme (Light/Dark/System) and multi-stream test preferences.
Control over your data: All stored history remains exclusively on your device and is never synchronized to remote servers or cloud databases. You can permanently delete all stored test logs at any time by tapping the Clear History action in the App's History screen.
4. Network Testing & Communication
When performing a speed test, Speed Reporter establishes direct HTTP network connections to public test server infrastructure to measure throughput and latency:
- Synthetic Benchmark Traffic: The App transmits and receives non-sensitive synthetic dummy data packets solely to calculate data transfer rates. No personal file data or user content is ever transmitted.
- IP Address Handling: Standard TCP/IP networking requires your IP address to route dummy data packets between your device and the benchmark server. These IP addresses are handled transiently by standard web server infrastructure for packet delivery and are neither retained nor analyzed by Speed Reporter.
5. App Permissions Required
Speed Reporter requests minimal permissions strictly necessary to perform network benchmarks:
- Internet / Network Access: Required to perform latency and bandwidth tests against speed test servers.
- Network State Check: Used to detect active connection types (e.g., Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Cellular) for display in test logs.
6. Security
Because all speed test results and preferences are stored exclusively on your local device, security is governed by your operating system's built-in sandbox and device passcode/biometric security. We recommend keeping your device operating system updated to ensure optimal local data security.
7. Children's Privacy
Speed Reporter does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Apple & Google Developer Guidelines.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and making the revised policy accessible within the App or App Store listing.
